OUR STORY - About Philly Soft Pretzels
It all started freshman year of college when Tim Dever was driving in the car with his mother, and came upon a red light at a busy intersection. There was a man selling soft pretzels in a bag to motorist stopped at the light. Mr. Dever was in need of a few quick dollars, and decided that this was an easy way to make some quick money by selling Philly soft pretzels.
The next weekend he took the long journey to South Philadelphia and bought a few hundred pretzels to sell at an intersection near his home. He sold all the Philly soft pretzels in about two hours and made a profit of $50. He thought he struck it rich! He made fifty dollars for two hours work, which came to $25 per hour. He thought himself a genius. But what he forgot to factor into the equation was the traveling time and expense of his road trip to a South Philadelphia bakery. That long dreaded drive into the hot, congested city consumed too much time.
The thought came to Tim; “why can you only get a good freshly baked soft pretzel in the city? Why can’t somebody make a good Philly soft pretzel in the suburbs?” These questions always lingered in the back of his mind. Tim Dever and his partner, Mark Gosik decided to take on the challenge of producing a delicious, hand-twisted, freshly baked, Philly soft pretzel that was better than any bakery in the city, and could be baked in any home town.
